Air Algerie flight AH5017 wreckage found

An Algerian aviation official has now confirmed that the Air Algerie flight AH5017, which went missing an hour after take-off yesterday, has crashed in Niger. The airline lost contact with the plane carrying 110 passengers and 6 crew members, while flying from Burkina Faso to Algiers across the Sahara. It has still not been confirmed what exactly brought the plane down.

‘The plane was not far from the Algerian frontier when the crew was asked to make a detour because of poor visibility and to prevent the risk of collision with another aircraft on the Algiers-Bamako route,’ an unnamed Air Algerie member said.

‘Contact was lost after the change of course.’

Day 1 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicked off with one major bang as it dripped with glam and opulence. Marianne Fassler showcased her ever-charming and exotic aesthetic with spectacular colours. Gavin Rajah showed a charming, decadent and beautiful collection that spoke to the Geisha in everyone. The overall collections were rich and showed a lot of variety in colour, shape and textile – and spoke to the new South African woman.

Andrej Pejic comes out as transgender woman

Meet model Andreja Pejic, formerly known as Andrej Pejic. The acclaimed androgynous model who has appeared on the covers of international fashion magazines and walked high-fashion runways the world over, has publicly come out as a transgender woman. Going forward, she will solely model women’s fashion. ‘To all trans youth out there, I would like to say respect yourself and be proud of who you are. All human beings deserve equal treatment no matter their gender identity or sexuality. To be perceived as what you say you are is a basic human right,’ she said in an interview.

She also posted a selfie on Facebook with the following message to her fans: ‘I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the love and support throughout the years. You’ve all helped me through this journey and I have learned a lot and really come into my own and the response to today’s announcement truly overwhelmed me and reminds me of why I chose to do this publicly. I think we all evolve as we get older and that’s normal but I like to think that my recent transition hasn’t made me into a different individual. Same person, no difference at all just a different sex I hope you can all understand that. I would also like to to reach out to all young gender non-conforming youth out there: I know it’s hard, I’ve been there, but remember it’s your right to be accepted as what you identify with—you deserve the same respect as any other human being on this planet. As a transgender woman I hope to show that after transition (a life-saving process) one can be happy and successful in their new chapter without having to alienate their past. Most importantly differences should not equal divisions, let’s all stand together in union.#betruebeyou’.

Adele’s son wins massive damages

Yes, Adele’s 21-month-old baby son, Angelo Adkins, has been awarded a 5-figure cheque from a photo agency following the settlement of a privacy case brought by his parents. Adele and her partner, Simon Konecki, argued that published paparazzi photos of her son breached their child’s privacy and the court agreed.

‘It is a matter of profound sadness that many of his milestone moments, such as his first family outing and his first trip to playgroup, were photographed and published worldwide expressly against his family’s wishes,’ the couple’s solicitor, Jenny Afia, told the court. ‘Adele and Simon never encourage such photos. Quite the opposite. Adele and Simon are pleased this matter has been resolved. They continue to do all they can to protect Angelo’s rights in relation to the paparazzi, including taking legal action where necessary,’ Afia went on. ‘They will be holding the damages on trust on behalf of the claimant for this purpose. They will also continue efforts to improve the laws relating to paparazzi and children generally, building on the successful campaign Adele helped fund in California resulting in far stricter harassment laws.’
